NRL 2026 Is Already Delivering

Why NRL Is a Good Sport to Model
Rugby League is one of the better sports for data-driven prediction for a few reasons:
- Consistent scoring patterns — NRL games follow relatively predictable scoring structures compared to, say, soccer, where a single deflection can change a match.
- Home advantage is real and measurable — Teams like the Broncos at Suncorp and the Roosters at Allianz genuinely outperform their away record in ways that show up clearly in the data.
- Strong head-to-head patterns — Certain NRL matchups are historically lopsided. The model picks these up and weights them appropriately.
- Form runs are meaningful — Unlike some sports where momentum is overrated, NRL teams on a winning run tend to keep winning. The model tracks this.
How Our NRL Model Works
Our XGBoost model is trained on multi-season NRL data. For each upcoming fixture it builds a feature set that includes:
- Win rate over last 3, 5 and 10 games
- Average point differential over last 5 games
- Current win/loss streak
- Head-to-head win rate over the last 10 meetings
- Home/away split
- Form differential (home team form minus away team form)
The model outputs a win probability for the home team. If it's above 65%, it becomes a tip. If not, it's a NO BET — and a NO BET is a disciplined result, not a failure.
