AFL 2026 โ What the Data Says Before Round 1
Every AFL season, the market forms opinions about which clubs are genuine premiership contenders and which are pretenders. Those opinions are shaped by off-season trades, pre-season form, media narratives and general vibes. Our model forms its opinions differently โ from historical form data, score differentials, H2H records and structural features like home ground advantage.
Here's what the model's pre-season ratings look like for 2026, and which clubs we expect to generate the most qualifying tips throughout the year.
Clubs the Model Rates as Consistent Tip Candidates
Geelong Cats
Geelong's multi-year form data is exceptional. Their score differential across recent seasons is consistently among the best in the competition, and their home advantage at GMHBA Stadium is one of the strongest in the AFL. The model generates high-confidence tips on Geelong at home against lower-rated opponents regularly.
Brisbane Lions
The Queensland isolation factor gives Brisbane a structural home advantage that shows up clearly in the data. Their recent form trajectory has been strong and the model rates them highly in home matchups, particularly against interstate opposition making the trip north.
Collingwood
Large crowds, MCG familiarity and strong recent form make Collingwood a reliable tip candidate when conditions align. Their H2H record against certain opponents is particularly favourable in the model's assessment.
Clubs That Generate Frequent NO BETs
Some clubs consistently fall below the 65% confidence threshold โ not because they're bad teams, but because their results are genuinely unpredictable relative to their opposition. Expansion clubs and teams in rebuilding phases often land in this category. The model's NO BET signal on these clubs is a feature, not a bug.
How to Bet AFL in 2026
- Trust the model's confidence levels. A BANKER tip at 85%+ confidence is the model at its most certain โ these should receive your maximum recommended stake (3u).
- Be patient in Round 1. The opening round has the least data behind it. Confidence levels tend to be lower and the model is more conservative. This is appropriate โ don't inflate your stakes because it's the first week of the season.
- Home finals are premium tip opportunities. When strong teams play at home in the finals series, the model's confidence tends to spike. Bookmark our AFL finals tips guide for September.
